Appreciate

I just read Kai's Xanga. I originally wasn't gonna do the whole Xanga thanks thing... but I want to. You guys really are amazing. God has given you all so many gifts. I can't believe how much you've put in for Allison and me. I really just can't say enough. I'm not gonna do the whole individual thanks because this post will stretch to the sun. You know who you are. You know what you've done. You know how I feel. And if you don't, come talk to me. Serious. I can't say enough to show my gratitude. Only one word comes up in my mind: Thanks. This is total, sincere, honest gratitude. Thanks.

小肥羊 Xiao Fei Yang

Hello fellow Xangans, it really has been a while hasn't it? I believe the last time I reviewed (I would like to say critiqued, but unfortunately, I'm not at that level) a restaurant was over a year ago. Well, today those of you who love the sizzle and drizzle of hot pot are really in for a treat.
Waking up from my afternoon nap, I was driven to a far away land called Westheimer. Now a select few of you knowledgeable Houstonians will know that Westheimer is nowhere near New Chinatown; well, at least not the part that I visited this fine evening. So, we're driving and driving, and snapping out of my drowsiness, I pop the question: "Where are we going?" (You thought I was going to propose, didn't you?) "小肥羊" was the answer. Obviously a Chinese restaurant of some sort. Curious. In fact, I had been to a Xiao Fei Yang in Shanghai a number of years ago, but what kind of restaurant would open in Houston, if it was already popular in the gorgeous Shanghai?  Anyway, we arrive, and the first thing I see is a bar. Right in front of the door. Walk in. Bam. Bar. A little strange. The first thing I smell is that wonderful aroma of well-done, succulent lamb meat. It brought back memories of a happy time, a carefree, meat-filled time... in Shanghai! It was, in fact, the same restaurant! As I turned to the left, I was amazed by the decor. Ever been to a fancy restaurant in an Asian city where the bathroom ornamentation probably costs more than your living room furniture, plasma screen tv included? Yeah, something like that but a little toned down. (Sorry, you know me, no pictures.) The modern ceiling lights illuminated the urban setting with the plush couches that enveloped the tables. On each table lied an electronic stove to boil the broth in the communal hot pot. With each pot came the choice of spicy, normal, or half and half. Being a diverse party, we naturally ordered the half and half. After the parents perused the menu, we ordered a plate of supreme lamb shoulder slices, a plate of supreme beef slices, and added a mound of special Mongolian bread to satisfy the rumblies in our tummies before the actual meal came. Ravenous as we were, all six of us pounced on the bread when it arrived, and the plate was cleared in 3 seconds flat. It was indeed special. The sesame crust reminded me of the sweet sugary outside of a sesame ball. The texture of the fluffy interior could almost battle it out with french bread, though the taste differs. When the soup came to a boil and steam rised as Lazarus rised from the dead, we eagerly dunked the meat and fished it out as it dripped with savory broth. Gulping down the slices, the six of us agreed on its scrumptious properties as we reached out to grab and drown another slice. Finishing the two plates of meat in mere minutes, the adults added on vegetables including enoki, giant oyster mushrooms, taro noodles, and tofu. Hold on, is tofu even a vegetable? Well anyway, we even decided to enjoy another three plates of meat. After another hour of stuffing ourselves like rabid animals, we slowed down to drink the soup base itself. Because I ate from the spicy side and dipped my meat into hot sauce as well, I downed numerous cups of water. Therefore, I needed to excrete some of that extra liquid. Not expecting anything or really not thinking about much except the desire to relieve myself, I walked into an amazing bathroom. The sink was marble, the walls painted beautifully, and the floor some kind of polished stone. The two faucet heads differed from one another yet matched perfectly. One mimicked the image of bamboo, and the other, well, it was just modern and elegant. As I returned to our comfortable sofas, I realized that the adults had ordered even more food. It seemed as though they wanted to try everything on the menu. Fine by me. We packed some lamb kabobs into our already bursting stomaches. Lamb kabob was the only thing I really remember and love from the Xiao Fei Yang in Shanghai. Being a little pre-teen, I had no appreciation for the finer things in life. Nevertheless, I dearly adored those lamb kabobs. Despite these lagging behind a little in taste from the ones I remembered, they were still delicious. My fond memories probably boosted the ones in Shanghai along with my bias of cities. As a last dish, two bowls of noodles were ordered to share among the six of us. Being full to the seam, none of us too eargerly rushed for the noodles, but, as usual, I put food that is placed in front of me into my mouth whether I'm starving or crammed already. Mmm, delicious! How could I be so gorged and yet find more food appetizing? Why, because it truly was! Eating everything to the last drop of soup, a hyperbole I must confess, we paid our bill and walked out satiated and satisfied. Despite it being far, I see another trip to this restaurant in the near future. Digging out the treasure of public transportation this summer, I muse to myself, can I somehow bus to this restaurant? Well, we shall see.

A Late Valentine

I miss you already.

I miss your warm glow snuggling, your bright chandeliers dangling, your intimate chamber enclosing. I miss your sweet sighs fluttering, your low moans quavering, your loud wails hovering. I miss your passionate hands dancing, your furious bows flying, your rapid fingers plucking on just the right rhythm. I miss the shrill shriek of the small piccolo against the tumbling tremolo of the thunderous basses. I miss the melodious melodies of the cellos and the harmonious harmonies of the violins. The thrills of the trills and the mad runs up and down the ladder of scales, how I miss them so. The tinkling of my own against the toots of those far back, how I miss them so. The black and white dashing by. Hurry, take up yours; it is time to free your soul.

The last chord bellowed. Is it over already? Where did the time go? When did the colors leave? My friends, my friends, come back to me! Shall I see you again? Same time. Same place. Just one distant year away? It's too much, too long!

I miss you already, music.

And I love you too much to let go. Wait for me...

2009

A new year again.

Here are my old resolutions:
1. Walk closer to God and stay closer.
(I don't know... phail...)
2. Spend more time with Storm. Sigh.
(I don't know... phail...)
3. Keep my grades up in the (high) A's. No procrastination!
(I actually kinda got this one!)
4. Exercise/Tennis.
(LOLWTFBBQ)
5. Be less dense/more considerate/observational.
(I'm so dense I don't know if I got this one.)
6. Eat healthier and sleep earlier lol.
(No chips... perhaps I got it?)
7. Spend less money and make more money. There shall be no such thing as bankruptcy.
(Bankruptcy... T_T)
8. No relationships.
(HAHAHA. Let me cut myself now.)
9. STATE AND REGION and everything else harp included.
(Got this!)
10. Forgive and forget.
(Hm...)

Hm... I don't know what to say. I am laughing at myself for number 8. Well, technically speaking I did get through it, if you want to be technical, technically. I don't really have any new resolutions right now. I just wanted to laugh at my ph41Lness. Laugh with me, minions friends! HAHAHA.
